Win Like Ammon

I want to take four verses from Alma 17:36-39 and apply them to our lives when we are fighting for something that we really care about and is a part of God's plan.
This is where Ammon goes to live among King Lamoni's people and goes out to water the flocks when some neighboring bullies come to scatter the flocks away resulting in the King's servants to be put to death. Ammon was rebellious earlier in his life. I don't imagine that he was afraid of a bunch of ruffians. He was only one man going to contend with a group of bloodthirsty guys who would like to kill him.
Put yourself in his shoes. You care very much about something in your life that you know is right, so you're going to stand up and do what it takes, being led by the strength and guidance of God. At first you make a big impact astonishing your opponent,(with a powerful sling) then of course your opponent gets angry. Right here is when people might back down; they don't want to get anybody angry. Too late, the war has already started and you must continue through. Whenever we do something brave and disrupt the adversary's work he comes at us stronger (instead of throwing rocks he comes with a club).
But Ammon was not afraid, verse 37 reads that every man who lifted his sword, Ammon smote off their arm. Just think how you could succeed by cutting off each threat as it comes rather than letting them accumulate until you are ineffective. I imagined the Lord providing a way whether legally or strategically that we could stop every advance from the adversary in the war we are currently (personally) fighting.
Ammon saved the "big gun" for their leader and conquered him as well. Verse 39 reads that they were driven off. I especially like vs. 29 that describes Ammon's heart being swollen with joy. He was excited because he saw an opportunity to be an example and make a difference. That is like us. Each of us have abilities that have come partially from our preparation in the pre-mortal life and in part from our gaining knowledge and experience through trials in this life. But we all care very much about something that we are willing to stand for.
I also like vs. 35 that reiterates the promised blessing to Mosiah that his sons would not be hurt while serving the Lord in bringing the gospel to the Lamanites.
The attempt to scatter King Lamoni's flocks was foiled, away the bad guys went and the Lord's work commenced.
Whatever it is in this life that we have been called to battle, controversial issues, preaching the gospel, hard feelings towards someone, addictions and temptations... I know that we can cut the adversary off and keep fighting calling on the strength of the Lord to help us fulfill His work.
